SS Avalon & Sugarloaf Casino Single Notecard
The S.S. Avalon made her maiden voyage across the San Pedro Channel on April 11, 1920. At the time, the Avalon was the largest, passenger steamship prviding service between the mainland and Catalina Island. In this photograph, the Avalon is passing by the original Casino on Sugarloaf Point - the framework of which later became the aviary for William Wrigley Jr.'s Bird Park. The Hotel St. Catherine in Descanso Canyon can also be seen in teh background.
